Roger Anderson

Roger Anderson was born in Oakland, California, the son of two musicians. He started listening to and appreciating Bee-Bop music at a very young age (This was pre-Beatles era!). Roger’s father insisted his children study musical instruments, so being enthralled with Bee-Bop, Roger naturally chose the drums. He started private lessons at the age of 8 and continued to hone his skills throughout his adolescence, playing with school orchestras and symphonies.

At the age of twelve, Roger formed his first band, The Radiants. When he hit high school, he didn’t want to wait for college, so he began working as a professional musician, playing fraternity parties on the U.C. Berkeley campus with his band, The Becketts. Roger’s band went on to perform at The Lucky Lion and the Showboat, six nights a week before he decided to pack up and move to Santa Cruz and study music with Lyle Cruise at Cabrillo College.

Roger’s musical journey has taken him to many stages and introduced him to many styles and musicians. He is seasoned in Rhythm & Blues, Tex-Mex, Techno and he has maintained a strong foothold in Jazz and Funk Fusion. Highlights of Roger’s career include performing with the great Jaco Pastorious, Ernie Watts of Four Play, Louie Bellson, The Robin Anderson Big Band, E-3 Playhouse Big Band, Barbies in Jail, The Dirty Butter Jug Band and the Roger Anderson Trio.

Roger offers 30, 45 and 60 minute drum lessons here at Los Gatos School of Music.
